         On-Site Services - Cogeneration Service
Cogeneration

If your operation requires reliable electricity and thermal energy, an on-site cogeneration plant may be your best option. Alliant Energy Integrated Services, through our Cogenex unit, can design, build, own, operate and maintain a power plant right on your property.

This cogeneration service can provide energy at a lower total cost than you pay today for utility electricity and thermal energy from your own equipment. Better yet, we can own the facility, so you don't have to make the capital investment.

More efficient and economical energy

A typical utility power plant can only convert about 35 percent of the fuel into useful electricity. The large clouds of water vapor often visible near power plants are a sign of heat loss resulting from low fuel efficiency.

For a typical Alliant Energy Integrated Services cogeneration facility, energy losses can be reduced from 70 percent to 20 percent.

A cogeneration facility is more efficient because it can use heat normally lost to the atmosphere to make steam, hot water and hot air that can be used in your process. It also eliminates the transmission line losses that occur when electricity moves from a utility power plant to your business.

Enjoying the benefits

Cogeneration can reduce your total energy costs up to 20 percent. Depending on the electric price in your area, the savings may be greater.

In addition, we can own and operate the cogeneration facility and provide the electricity and steam to you, so that you can concentrate on your business. We are responsible for everything, including permitting, construction, operation and maintenance.

An on-site power plant can protect your equipment and your business from the damage caused by electric service outages. An on-site facility also can improve your power quality, which will increase the life and decrease the maintenance of your equipment.

Our cogeneration facility can integrate with your present equipment. The most important benefit, however, is that you gain control over the cost of your energy, reducing the total cost to operate your business.
